Warriors aim to gain momentum against Heat

While the Warriors’ 121-110 win over the Charlotte Hornets Monday was a ‘comfortable’ win, the game wasn’t without its flaws. They turned the ball over recklessly. Not to mention, their interior defense made the Hornets’ Cody Zeller look like the second coming of Hakeem Olajuwon given how effortlessly he glided to the basket.

However, a breakthrough night from DeMarcus Cousins and a quiet 26 points from Klay Thompson proved to be just enough the get the job done in the Queen City.

Previously, the Warriors rallied late in the fourth quarter to beat Miami 120-118 at Oracle. The Heat capitalized on Golden State’s lack of perimeter defense, and came within a hair of an upset.

Tonight, the Warriors roll into South Beach in hopes to put together a complete game against at pesky Miami squad.

Limiting Turnovers

The Warriors committed 15 turnovers against Charlotte Monday, and surrendered 20 points in the process. In their earlier game against the Heat, the Warriors committed 12 turnovers. However, they also surrendered 15 points from those turnovers. While the Warriors are a pass happy offense, they must become conservative without hindering ball movement. What gets the Warriors in so much turnover trouble is the fact that they make unnecessary passes at times. Granted, the extra pass is part of the Warriors’ identity but they must pass with purpose. Kevin Durant said earlier in the season that the team shouldn’t pass just to pass. Now, I know what he means. The problem with the extra pass is that it puts the team at risk for the careless turnovers that plague them.

Knocking the Heat’s hustle

In their last matchup, Miami jumped out to a 19 point lead in the first quarter. Why? Mainly because they out hustled the Warriors. The Heat stomped the Warriors in second chance points (21-11) and points in the paint (48-34). If the Warriors make it their purpose to hustle on defense and rebounding, it will help their battle with recent sluggish starts.
