This Is Town Business: Week 4- Nothing Easy

For the Golden State Warriors, it’s hard damn work to make the NBA look bad.

The perception of the Warriors’ effortless dominance is just that: a perception. For five years now, the Warriors have broken teams with their juggernaut offense and just as stellar (but unsung) defense. When the Warriors are fully locked in and engaged, they make the game seem so easy to the point where your mind is playing tricks on you. ‘This can’t be a real and authentic NBA game. This is 2K I’m watching’.

It’s understandable but not valid.

The Warriors are attempting to get that rare three-peat, and according to former forward David West, this season in particular will be the most trying.

“It will be the toughest year they have,” West told the Undefeated. “It’s going to be health. The hard thing about sort of being in the position that the Warriors are in, everybody gets to adjust to you. Everybody gets to sort of gear up and figure out ways to beat you.”

Where’s the lies? So far, everything that West said here happened already. Injuries to Stephen Curry and Draymond Green contributed to the Warriors’ recent struggles. Opposing teams are making adjustments while the Warriors tend not to. It adds up and it checks out.

In this week’s Town Business, the Warriors struggles to progress to the mean continue.

Short Handed Dubs test their might vs Raptors

Without Curry and Green, it seems to be a given that the Raptors would run the Warriors off the floor in their match up and in the first half they did. Toronto went on 10 and 12 point runs when the Warriors offense struggled. However, they began to fight back in the second quarter to make the game manageable.

Then, KD happened.

Durant lead the charge, trading bucket for bucket with Kawhi Leonard to will the Warriors into overtime. Even though they lost, the biggest takeaway of the night was that the Warriors were beginning to look like themselves.

Sputter in Detroit

Stephen Curry made his return to the line up after sitting out for three weeks with a groin injury. Usually when Curry returns from an injury, he explodes. However, that wasn’t the case against the Pistons. Admittedly, Curry was anxious and going 100 miles an hour in the first half. Eventually he’d go on to score 27 points in the nine point loss. The Warriors continued to struggle defensively and became out of sorts on offense. The silver lining? Kerr admitted his mistakes.

Town’s Finest

The Town’s Finest for week four is once again Kevin Durant. In addition to his 51 point, 11 board masterpiece against Toronto, he followed that up with a game leading 28 points against the Pistons. Not only did he lead the team statistically, but Durant lead by example by defending Kevon Looney in his matchup against Andre Drummond.

Keep it locked for the next Town Business.
