Another One Bites the Dust: Taurean Prince Suffers Ankle Injury

In the final quarter of the Atlanta Hawks’ 128-111 loss against the defending champion, Golden State Warriors, Taurean Prince drilled a three pointer from the top of the key. However, the third-year wing’s left foot landed directly on top of Shaun Livingston and Prince remained down in serious pain. He is expected to miss at least three weeks of the season.

This isn’t the first time the Warriors have been involved in this type of play–see: Pachulia, Zaza–and Hawks head coach Lloyd Pierce was still visibly upset after the game about it. The NBA instituted a year ago that plays like these could lead to flagrant fouls being called on the defender; Livingston did not receive one in this instant.

Prince is the team’s third leading scorer at 15 points per game, and has already been sidelined a few games this season with an Achilles injury. This latest ankle injury looks likely to keep Prince off the court for a couple games if not longer.

Atlanta has been bitten hard by the injury bug this season. Only three players (Kent Bazemore, DeAndre’ Bembry, and Trae Young) have appeared in all 24 games for the Hawks this season. Even worst, it’s been some of the most critical players that have missed extended time to begin the year.

John Collins missed the first 15 games with his own ankle issues, Dewayne Dedmon has missed six games, and now Prince is going to be adding onto the three he’s already been out.

As the Hawks attempt to reload and rebuild, it seems like a new injury continues to create a roadblock in the construction.

Best case scenario, Prince is only out for the remainder of the week. Worst case scenario, Prince has a Collins-like extended absence.
